Tracing back the Roots...BUHAWI!

One terrifying 28th day of September, a super typhoon battered Army Reserve Command. Trees were uprooted. Buildings were heavily damaged. Circuit lines were cut. The day was like the advent of “Dark Age” in ARESCOM. However, it gave a momentous genesis of solidarity, to a new breed of warriors- who remained indispensably strong; who become the light in ARESCOM’s chaotic condition and instrumental to its rehabilitation; and who demonstrated perpetual optimism of which brought “ a force multiplier” and made them to surpass the ravaging blow of the super typhoon. Thus, the stormy event provided a distinct name to this band of brothers- POTC “BUHAWI” (Band of the United Herculean Army Warriors of Integrity) Class 22 - 06.

The members of class “BUHAWI” who hail from different RCDG’s, Philippine Army Units and AFP major Units, hurdled all types of obstacles and tests just to attain a high degree of survivability from the day of its reception dated 14 September 2006 until the gratifying day of its open collar ceremony dated 08 November 2006. Like the powerful blow of a ‘buhawi’, the class vigorously faced the different types of physical and mental tests within the span of its 45 days of survival training.

The powerful blow of class “BUHAWI” was once again proven during the third week of November-The MOI presentation (Methods of Instruction) - wherein the integrity, vitality and “powerful blows of the mouth” or shall we say articulation skills were shown by each member of the class.

Another forceful blizzard of class “BUHAWI” was demonstrated during the days of Field Training Exercises dated 23-29 November 2006. The contending companies - ALPHA and BRAVO COY - demonstrated agility, strength, tactics speed and maneuverability in Immediate Action Drills and attainment of field missions/objectives.

The name and growl of “BUHAWI” will surely resound and linger the memories of people after it gave its precious blood dated 04 November 2006. The recipients will surely applaud and take pride of what class “BUHAWI” did for these people for they shall be spared with another ‘life’ and shall bear the blood of patriotic young warriors.

On the 8th day of December 2006 the cool blow of class “BUHAWI” has also felt by top brass officers and men of Headquarters Philippine Army, the cradle of great and gallant warriors. It is in this ‘cradle’ that the members of the class were carefully briefed by HPA staff (at HPA Conference and Multipurpose Hall), and were enlightened about the colorful history of Philippine Army (at HPA Museum). On the 9th day, the cool whistle of BUHAWI has finally reached the ruins of Corregidor Island. The young warriors were greatly inspired by the men of great heroism who defended the said great fortress on the event of WWII.

The day has arrived that the powerful wind of class “BUHAWI” has finally come to an end in ARESCOM, on the 14th day of December 2006 (Graduation day of POTC “BUHAWI” Class 22 - 06).

However, the powerful wind of class “BUHAWI” shall begin to blow and shall be more forceful to all parts of the Philippines, as the members of the class return to their respective units, municipalities and provinces. They shall bear with them a great maxim on their ‘shoulders’:

“THE YOUNG BLOOD HAS COME ITS WAY TO CARRY ON!!!”
